Whether or not you have a Mac running a copy of Windows or you're using an external device to access your hard drive from a Windows PC, accessing the files is made possible with this freeware application.
HFSExplorer is probably designed mainly for those who are running Windows on Mac hardware with Boot Camp, but it can also be used in other cases. All you require is a hard drive with an HFS file-system.

have you had a look at the security level on the two affected windows machines?
As from Windows 7, on your windows machine(s) effected, check the following registry key;
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlLsa
look for key KeyLmCompatibilityLevel
If this is already set to '1', change that from '1' to '3'.
It doesn't require a reboot and takes effect immediately.
Some people reported changing it from 2 to 3 and having the same positive effect.
Yosemite smb authentication is requiring NTLM 3 instead of 1 or 2.

Use the host file on windows machines as to never resolve the mac's name via SMB.
